Virtual Tutoring SF

Our names are Ethan (Grade 12), Evan (Grade 9) and Hayden (Grade 9). As students who have witnessed the loss of learning in online classes first hand due to the current pandemic, we started a free online tutoring service, Virtual Tutoring SF, for students who needed extra academic support over the summer. In our 8-week program, we had 10 tutors who spent a total of 600 hours teaching math and english to 40 elementary and middle school students over 25 unique classes through Zoom.

The summer virtual tutoring program was a success. Of the 14 families (50%) that responded to our survey, 100% indicated that we have met or exceeded their expectations, 93% are interested in returning in the Fall, and 100% would recommend our program to others.

With the announcement of most schools conducting distance learning in the Fall and the strong interest from families to continue our program, we hope to extend it through Fall to give students the additional support needed during this challenging time. Building on a strong program foundation, we plan to expand the program to target low-income students who are disproportionately affected by this dilemma. We want to continue to offer this essential program to all students for free.

We are trying to raise $5,000 for our program. The money will go to administrative cost and our spring program. Currently, we are in the process of applying to be a nonprofit, and all of the money will go to helping expand our program and compensate the hardworking tutors.

We believe our program had a positive impact on the students that we connected over the summer. With your help, we hope to continue making a difference for those in need. Thank you in advance for your help with our cause. Your help will make a difference to the community in this challenging time.
